"Hello! Thank you for choosing Stolten Holistic Medicine for your health care needs. I am so excited to be starting this practice in the Central Georgia area. I spent 7 years serving in the US Army, on the West coast and in Europe, a truly unique experience. However, I have always dreamed of starting my own clinic, where I can intimately know my patients, their families, and provide for their specific needs. I have experience in pediatrics, adult medicine, and geriatric medicine. And while I no longer deliver babies, I love taking care of newborns!
In my time as a military physician, I was pushed to see patients every 15 minutes and follow strict guidelines, which limited my care to problem-based solutions. I was limited to treating problems with medications, and had no time to practice the therapies and alternative care that I believed my patients needed and deserved. I grew weary of the speed, the workload, and the lack of intimacy with my patients.
Out of that frustration, I harkened back to my roots. I became a family physician to promote health, encourage preventive lifestyle changes, and ultimately to prevent chronic disease. I started implementing my knowledge of nutrition, supplementation, body mechanics, and biophysiology to help my patients heal. I extended my visits with each patient to understand their needs and address the root cause of their illnesses and complaints. My boss wasn't happy, but time and again, I saw my patients improve with simple changes to their diets and lifestyles. I became more fulfilled and my patients were happier when they were able to recover through nutrition, OMT, and without the use of medications.
I should not have been so surprised. Osteopathic medicine is inherently holistic. It teaches that we are spiritual beings inside physical bodies. We cannot isolate one side in addressing our health. We must address the body, mind, spirit, and emotions altogether in order to achieve complete healing. I believe we are each created uniquely by God. His creation was declared "good." From this vantage point, I can see that we are designed to heal.
Starting my own clinic has afforded me the freedom to practice in the way that I feel benefits my patients, enriches their understanding of their own bodies, and promotes wellness in all aspects of life. My practice offers a unique blend of traditional western medicine and alternative therapies. Thanks for choosing SHM, and welcome to the family!"
